Cernianska named top Aggie

Julie Ann Grosshans

Editors note: Zuzana Cernianska was named the Utah State Athlete of the Week for Nov. 24. Utah Statesman: Who do you think was your toughest opponent this season? ZC: I think Santa Barbara because they are very good each year. We had a chance to beat them one time, but we didn’t. We lost to them in five games. It was hard. US: What is your favorite part about volleyball? ZC: Winning. When we win a tough game, it’s the best. US: What do you think is the hardest part about volleyball? ZC: The hardest part is to win the game. You can lead the whole time, but the last two points are the hardest. US: When did you start playing and why? ZC: I started playing when I was 9. I started because my sister started before and we did everything together. US: Why did you decide to go to Utah State? ZC: There is a company on the Internet where you can sign up if you are interested in playing volleyball in the United States. The coaches send you e-mail if they are interested. [Head Coach Burt Fuller] was Division I and everybody else was Division II. US: Do you get to go home to the Czech Republic for Christmas? ZC: Yes. I am leaving on the 13th. It’s like a 15-hour plane ride. US: Did you do anything fun for Thanksgiving? ZC: I was at [teammate Erin] Cartwright’s house. US: Do you prefer Gatorade or Powerade? ZC: Probably Powerade because we drink it. US: How do you prepare for finals week? ZC: Nothing special. I try to study, but it is hard for me. [Now that the season is over] we are a little bit upset, but we have lots of time to study. US: Do you plan to stay in the United States after college? ZC: No, I want to go home. I want to play volleyball. In [the Czech Republic] you can play volleyball for however long you want to if you are still good. You are not done when you are done with college. -juag@cc.usu.edu
