OUR VIEW: ASUSU elections invite changes

With a brand new year come many changes. A new semester brings new classes and teachers, new books to tote around and maybe even new people to meet.

It also means changes are on the horizon. The Associated Students of Utah State University have begun their search for people to fill their positions during the next school year. Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. there will be a meeting in the Taggart Student Center, Room 322A regarding upcoming ASUSU elections.

While this meeting is for volunteers who want to help with elections, this is the perfect opportunity for all students to get involved and let their voice be heard. Throughout the past semester many students raised concern and praise about the decisions being made around campus. Many of these decisions pass the desks of the ASUSU vice presidents and senators.

Unfortunately, many of the positions are filled by people who already have connections within ASUSU. This form of cronyism keeps ideas in the university’s governing body very limited.

Last year, one candidate who ran for president of ASUSU used the platform of getting quilted toilet paper in the bathrooms. While this notion seems to be absurd, he made it past the primary elections. Just think how far someone could go if they had valid concerns and ideas regarding policies at USU.

We encourage all students to think about the contributions they could make to the university and to do their part in making USU a better place for future Aggies.
