Watch out!

If you don’t, you could miss it. There is more to do this semester besides classes and homework and tests. Take a break from your daily routine and come to a show at the Ellen Eccles Theatre.

The Ellen Eccles Theatre offers some of the best talent, local or professional.

During January, the theater is offering performances such as “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat,” Dianne Reeves’ vocal talent and Shakespeare’s “Othello.”

“It’s huge for Cache Valley and the Ellen Eccles Theatre,” said Julie Hollist, director of marketing and communications, about recently adding the show “Othello.”

It will be performed by nationally touring Guthrie Theater, she said.

The Guthrie Theater won the 1982 Tony Award for outstanding contribution to American theater. Additionally, their production of “Othello” was selected as part of the largest tour of Shakespeare works in the American Communities program. The tour of “Othello” will reach more than 100 communities and every state by the end of 2004.

“We are very excited that their only Utah performance will be held in Logan in the Ellen Eccles Theatre,” said Lisette Miles, executive director of Cache Valley Center for the Arts.

The show will be held Jan. 30 and 31. Tickets are $30, $26 and $20.

Students receive a 50 percent discount with valid ID.

And if Shakespeare doesn’t interest you, a performance by two-time Grammy Award winner jazz singer, Dianne Reeves, might. Reeves will be returning to Utah for the first time after performing at the 2002 Winter Olympics. Reeves has won international acclaim with 12 albums and four Grammy nominations. Billboard magazine wrote, “She caresses every phrase with palpable warmth and joy.”

While tickets for one of her performances in London cost $65, the Ellen Eccles Theatre is charging half of that; tickets range from $25, $21 and $15. Reeves will perform Jan. 27 and 28.

“You are getting world-class performances at a discount,” Hollist said.

Also coming to Logan is “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat,” which will be performed by the Cache Community Theatre.

The show runs Jan. 15 through 24. Tickets cost $16, $14 and $11.
