LETTER: ‘Open Carry’ is a moot point

The article about an open carry campus that ran March 2 were incomplete because there was no mention of the Federal Gun Free School Zone Act of 1990 — overturned by the Supreme Court in 1995, but revised and reinstated later that year — that states you cannot open carry within 1,000 feet of an elementary school, such as the Edith Bowen Laboratory School and Center for Early Childhood Education. The vast majority of campus is covered under this 1,000-foot radius. I feel this issue is a moot point.
