Local emerging acoustic singer-songwriters to perform

Four local folk artists, selected as some of the best emerging acoustic singer-songwriters in Cache Valley, will perform at WhySound (30 Federal Ave.), Friday, Feb. 20, at 8 p.m.
The show is hosted by the Bridger Folk Music Society. Sean Damitz, society board member, said the society is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting and preserving acoustic and folk music in Cache Valley.
Damitz said the show is something students and the public won’t want to miss.
“All of the artists are definitely talented and have worked on their craft and are all worthy to go out and pursue music as a career,” he said. “That’s what Bridger Folk tries to do – empower local musicians to give them the skills and the exposure to make names for themselves. That is something USU students can get behind.”
He said performers will include Jan Summerhays, Jacob Davidson, Liz Lachmar and Megan Simper, all USU students. Damitz said the guitarists were selected to perform by WhySound and members of the Bridger Folk Music Society Board.
“The performers are the names that came up and were chosen as up and comers and some of the best the valley has to offer,” he said. “All four of them caught my attention because their proficiency with guitar and the ability to direct some really good original songs and have a good stage presence.”
Tickets for the concert are $10 and are available at the door. To previe Summerhays’, Davidson’s and Lachmar’s work, visit www.myspace.com/iberis, www.myspace.com/jacobbartleydavidson, www.myspace.com/lizlachmar, respectively.
Damitz said this concert is one of about a dozen that Bridger Folk Music Society hosts each year. Next weekend, Feb. 28., the society hosts Brooks Williams at the Caine Lyric Theatre at 7 p.m.
