Firefighters to speak today

Utah Firemen will speak on the time spent as rescue workers in New York City after the Sept. 11 attacks in an event entitled, “Home Town Heroes.” The event will be today in the Sunburst Lounge in the Taggart Student Center at 8 p.m.

Meet Logan’s finalists Monday

“Meet the Candidates” night will be held at the Whittier Community Center, 290 N. 400 East, on Monday.

Both Logan city council and mayoral candidates will be featured.

The program will begin at 7 p.m. and end with a reception at 9 p.m.

Fourteen groups are sponsoring the event. For information, call 753-9008.

Multicultural Carnival invites all

The Annual Multicultural Carnival 2001 will be held Nov. 2 from 5 to 10 p.m. in the Taggart Student Center Ballroom.

The event will be held to celebrate cultures from around the world.

It will be hosted by Multicultural Student Services, KSM Guitars, S&S Power, Deseret First Credit Union, Centennial Bank and Angie’s Restaurant.

The cost is $2 per student, $6 per student family, $4 per person or $8 per family. This price includes food sampling.

USU hosts Korean Movie Week

The Korean Movie Week is being hosted by the Utah State University Korean Language Club. They will be showing recent top box office movies with English subtitles.

The first is Joint Security Area (JSA) on Thursday at 4:30 p.m. in Old Main, Room 115.

The second is Art Museum by the Zoo on Friday at 4:30 p.m. in Main, Room 115.

And the third will be Shee wol eh or Time-transcendental Love at 7 p.m. on Friday in Main, Room 115.

Everyone is welcome to attend and admission is free.

Takaki to speak for Diversity Week

Ronald Takaki will be the guest lecturer for Diversity Week. He will speak Monday in the Taggart Student Center Ballroom at 11:30 a.m.

The Multicultural Student Services will use this presentation to begin the Week. Takaki is a nationally recognized scholar of multicultural studies and the author of several prize-winning books. His address will be on the subject of multiculturalism and the university, a timely subject since culture, ethnic and race awareness education requirements are being considered.

President Kermit L. Hall will also address the campus on issues of diversity on Thursday, Nov. 1 at noon in the TSC Ballroom.

Clothesline project to honor women

There will be a Clothesline display until Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Sunburst Lounge of the Taggart Student Center.

The Clothesline Project is a visual display of shirts with messages and illustration that have been designed by women survivors of violence by their friends or families.

The Clothesline may also contain shirts made to honor women who have died as a result of violence.

The purpose of this project is to increase awareness of the impact of violence against women to celebrate a woman’s strength to survive and to provide another avenue for break her silence.
