White leads USU to first victory

With their backs against the wall on Saturday against Idaho State, the Aggies needed someone to step up and lead them to victory.

The team turned to familiar hero Emmitt White to help them pull out a 28-27 victory in this year’s Homecoming game.

White saved the best for last as he scored three touchdowns in the fourth quarter alone, including the game winner as he took a Jose Fuentes handoff 20 yards for a touchdown with 4:47 left.

“[White’s] just one of those guys that seems to get better and better as the game goes on,” head coach Mick Dennehy said.

On the day, White rushed for 157 yards – 100 in the second half – on 25 carries and had six catches for 49 yards.

“I just told the coaches at half time that we could get five or 10 yards per carry against these guys,” White said.

White said that when the Aggies were down, it was his job to “make everyone else’s job easier, make their [offensive line’s] blocks better, to help everyone feel some enthusiasm.

“We’ve played against the best and we know that we can score on anyone,” he said.

White said it “feels real great to get a win.”
