Utah State Ends Outdoor Season On Final Day Of NCAA West Region Primary Rounds

Utah State men and women’s track and field teams finished the outdoor season at the 2011 NCAA West Region Primary Rounds in Eugene, Ore. on Saturday. The Aggies will take the month of June off before training for the cross country season.

On the day, senior Ashlee Cannon ran in the 100m hurdles quarterfinals finishing 20th with a time of 13.72, matching her personal-best she set on Friday. Fellow senior Shannon Prince competed in the discus as she placed 21st with a toss of 47.23m (154-11) along with junior Kim Quinn running a 17:16.74 in the 5,000m, ending the day at No. 42.

“It was a great season with 13 athletes going on to the National Championships,” said USU veteran head coach Gregg Gensel. “We won’t have anyone moving on to the final round but we had a great season and a great turn out here in Oregon.”

Overall Utah State had a successful year with the men winning their third-straight Western Athletic Conference Championship as the women placed second, their highest finish since 2001.
