Jacob Gibson’s e-mail and Statesman letter policies
This is not a letter for publication, but rather a letter to inform you that I am distressed at the apparent willingness of the editorial staff of the Statesman to lower its standards this year regarding letters to the editor. The personal attacks, not to mention profanity, found in Jacob Gibson’s letter, would never have been allowed by past editors of the Statesman, and for good reason. I have written much milder letters in the past, and had them rejected, and yet a letter including the terms “dim-witted”, “stinking idiots”, and “ass-kissing drones” is apparently no problem for today’s editorial staff. I don’t know if the letter was allowed simply because you agreed with its content, or if there was some other ulterior motive, but you should be ashamed of yourself if you have allowed your journalistic integrity to be so hopelessly abandoned.
