Spikers go 4-0 in WAC play

The Utah State women’s volleyball team extended its win streak to four games this weekend, defeating Idaho Saturday night and Boise Thursday night on the road.

With the wins, the Aggies improved to 4-0 in WAC play, the team’s best conference start in five years.

Senior Erin Graybill and sophomore Amanda Orgill led USU in its win Saturday night. Graybill and Orgill each had eight blocks for the night. Graybill also added 12 kills while Orgill put up 10. Two other Aggies recorded double-digit kills as well. Zuzana Cernianska and Beth Hodge both put up 11.

For the match, the Ags out-blocked Idaho 18-8.

The Ags came out and easily won the first two games over the Vandals, but in the third game, hitting only .111, the Ags fell 20-30 to Idaho. But in a tight fourth game, USU was able to hold on for a 30-28 win and the match point over Idaho.

Thursday night against Boise, Cernianska led Utah State to a three-game win. Cernianska had 18 kills, hitting .484.

The Aggies will next travel to Fresno State Wednesday. Fresno is 0-3 in conference play, and lost to Louisiana Tech and New Mexico State recently, two teams the Ags have already defeated.

They will then return home to face San Jose State Saturday night at 7 p.m.
