Volleyball starts Homecoming weekend with win

After cruising early, the Utah State volleyball team hung on to defeat Louisiana Tech in four sets Thursday as three different Aggies finished with at least 10 kills each.

Utah State led throughout the entirety of the first two sets, overcoming five errors in the first set to win 25-18. It was all USU in the second set as the Aggies raced to an 11-0 lead.

Louisiana Tech fought back in the third, overcoming a 22-19 deficit with a 6-0 run. Maria Coelho recorded three kills in the set, the third of which knotted the game at 22.

The Aggies bounced back in the fourth and finished with 13 team blocks. Senior Shay Sorenson finished with a team-high 14 kills, while sophomore Rachel Orr had 13 and senior Josselyn White added 10.

USU is now 14-1 all-time against the Lady Techsters and has won the last six meetings in series. The Aggies are 7-1 in Ruston, La., having won the last three contests.

Utah State moved to 9-5 overall, including a 4-1 record in WAC play. Louisiana Tech dropped to 3-13 overall and 0-4 in the WAC.

The Aggies will conclude their two-game road trip with a visit to the University of Texas-Arlington on Saturday, Sept 29 at 1 p.m.
