LETTER: USU sportsmanship was embarassing

To the editor:

Thank you to The Statesman for writing about our lack of respect. I was at the USU vs. BYU football game sitting among BYU fans and not once was I jeered, ridiculed or stereotyped. We congratulated each other on good plays throughout the intense game. They were respectful even after they won. During the game, people asked me “Where is Utah State?” and “What are you studying?” But the question that stuck out the most was, “What is an Aggie, anyway?” I hope it isn’t what was demonstrated at the Spectrum.

The lack of sportsmanship is embarrassing. We may have won the game, but we lost a lot of respect. To me, that is not something to be proud of. What is an Aggie? It’s up to us. As we go to classes and games maybe we should ask ourselves not what we’re going to be someday, but who we’re going to be someday.
