Explanations, goodbyes and thanks by Statesman columnist Jon Cox
For the last eight months, it has been my privilege to have my opinion printed on the pages of the Utah Statesman. Some share my views on the issues I have addressed, while many disagree.
I especially applaud all of those who have cared enough to write a letter to the editor or e-mail in response to my articles. I am allowed to publish my opinion. They should certainly be allowed the same privilege.
Though I firmly believe in what I have written, I do not hold that others must share my same views. Diversity of opinion is indispensable to a university atmosphere and life in general. USU would be a very bland place indeed if 16,000 students all thought like Jon Cox.
Not only would it be bland, but more often than not, we would likely be in the wrong.
If I have stated anything contrary to the truth, I apologize. Letters to the editor have been quick to correct me, and rightly so.
But I believe what I write. And I am fortunate to attend a university where such a privilege could be afforded me.
