The War Market

Dear Editor: While we go about our poor-starving-student lives here at USU, it is easy to ignore the financial impact of President Bush’s war on terrorism. With our battleships making top speed for the Middle East, I forsee some hard days ahead at the gasoline pumps. In addition, while I don’t know many students with 401k’s, you’d have to live in a cave not to know about the damage done to the stock market. How does this impact us as students? The job market, like many other things, now seems uncertain. Military spending may have unforseen affects on government programs like PELL grants. At the very least, we can count on increases in the price of gasoline and a great deal of financial uncertainty. What’s the remedy? Keep the student loans and credit cards to a minimum, because the future is too uncertain to be buried under student debt. Kathleane Kaczor 528815002
