Tune in to the Old Lyric Repertory Company with “Greater Tuna”

Laughs are promised by the Old Lyric Repertory Company’s next production, “Greater Tuna,” opening July 17 at the Caine Lyric Theatre in Logan. Curtain time is 7:30 p.m.

The Old Lyric Repertory Company is a summer theater program based in the Department of Theatre and the Caine College of the Arts at Utah State University.

“This show is a hilarious look at small-town life in rural Texas,” said Dennis Hassan, artistic director of the OLRC and professor in the Caine College of the Arts at USU. “Two great actors portray a number of characters from the town, ranging from teenage hoodlums to elderly church ladies. Between Lee Daily and Stefan Espinosa, this lively show will leave you breathless.”

The show welcomes everyone to radio station OKKK, broadcasting from Tuna, the third smallest town in Texas. Tuna is where the Lion’s Club is too liberal and Patsy Cline never dies. This satire on rural American life introduces audiences to more than 20 wonderfully wacky characters.

Playing all the roles are Espinosa, an OLRC audience favorite this season as Huck Finn in the OLRC’s “Big River: The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn,” and Daily, a long-time OLRC actor making his only appearance of the summer in “Greater Tuna.”

The OLRC also presents “Steel Magnolias,” “Private Lives,” “Lend Me a Tenor” and “Charlotte’s Web” this season. Each show runs on selected dates June through August and is performed in the Caine Lyric Theater located at 28 West Center Street.

After its July 17 opening, “Greater Tuna” can be seen in a matinee and evening performance July 21, then in repertory with the other productions. A complete performance calendar is online at the OLRC website (http://arts.usu.edu/lyric/htm/schedule).
