Kohl’s company to bring new department store to Logan
bringing not only a place to shop, but new job opportunities for students.
Nestled between Kmart and Wal-Mart at 1660 N. Main, Store Manager Bruce Comer said Kohl’s is all about family values, being customer service driven and beating prices.
“We offer everything from the low-end stuff to the name brands,” Comer said. “Basically, we’ll sell the same stuff as Dillards, but at half the price.”
Kohl’s sells clothing, shoes, accessories, luggage, bedding, small electronics and cosmetics. They also carry national brands such as Mudd, Lee, Columbia Sportswear, Carter’s and Skechers. Comer said they have become an exclusive retailer of Candies shoes.
Comer said Kohl’s’ “high quality and better price” is what sets them apart from other department stores.
With the opening of a brand new store comes the need to fill all the positions necessary to run that store. Comer said they have hired approximately 200 employees.
“Most of our nighttime help has been students,” Comer said.
A job fair was held in August to fill the store’s positions. Comer said they are still accepting applications online for back fill.
Kohl’s store history dates back to 1962 when the store was started by the Kohl family in Milwaukee, Wis. By 2003, there were just over 600 stores with sales exceeding $10 billion annually.
Kohl’s has been expanding its way into Utah. Along with 55 other stores across the nation, the Logan store will have its grand opening Oct. 6, making it the seventh store in Utah.
“I lived in Minneapolis for a couple years where there were Kohl’s stores everywhere and I wondered why we didn’t have any in Utah,” said Anne Cazier, a senior majoring in Dietetics. “I was really excited when I came back to Utah and found that they had begun spread here also.” Comer said Kohl’s goal is to open 100 stores a year and to have 1,200 stores by the year 2009. Currently there are more than 675 stores open and running from coast to coast.
