Regents increase salaries

President Stan Albrecht is seeing a boost in his presidential salary this year, thanks to approval from the state Board of Regents earlier this summer.

Albrecht, along with the 10 other presidents from public colleges and universities throughout Utah, received a 3.5 percent salary increase, which went into effect July 1.

Albrecht will be receiving an additional $8,127 per year, raising his salary from $232,200 to $240,327.

The decision to raise presidential salaries was based on a vote from legislators and the state board of regents on June 10.

“I didn’t have any expectations,” Albrecht said. “No one at the university had control over the decision made on my salary.”

The last salary increase higher education presidents received before this summer’s approval was three years ago. However, Utah’s higher education system is just trying to keep up with the salary increases of its peer institutions.

“Presidential salaries across Utah run about $40,000 to $60,000 less than its peers across the country,” Albrecht said.

However, within the administration, the university manages all salary increases.  Almost all employees received an average 4 percent increase.
