LETTER: Greek is the way to go

Editor,

When I went through sorority recruitment four years ago, I wasn’t sure quite what to expect.

I came to Utah State University as a freshman not knowing a soul. I was homesick, and was looking for a way to get involved and to make friends. I actually thought joining a sorority would be just like joining any other club on campus, but soon found it was so much more.

My sorority is my home away from home. My sisters have helped me through some of the hardest times of my life, and if it weren’t for the Greek community at USU, I know I wouldn’t be attending school here today.

The Greek community at USU is composed of three National Panhellenic Conference Sororities: Alpha Chi Omega, Chi Omega, and Kappa Delta; four National Interfraternity Conference Fraternities: Delta Sigma Phi, Pi Kappa Alpha, Sigma Nu and Sigma Chi; and two multicultural organizations: Psi Sigma Phi and Theta Nu Xi.

This year, sorority recruitment will be held Sept. 9 through Sept. 14. Women interested will be required to pay a $15 registration fee and to attend an orientation at 6 p.m. on Sept. 9. Fraternity rush will also be held Sept. 9 through Sept. 14, those interested will be required to pay a $10 fee. Psi Sigma Phi and Theta Nu Xi are the multicultural fraternity and sorority on USU’s campus. They will be holding an application and intake process the same time fraternity and sorority recruitment is being held. Both organizations bring great diversity to USU’s campus.

For registration in any of these three processes come to the Taggart Student Center, Room 326, and I would be happy to answer any questions.

I would encourage anyone who wants to get involved, to meet some amazing people, and to make the transition to campus life just a little easier, to check out one of USU’s Greek organizations. Even if someone chooses not to join, recruitment is a worthwhile experience and a good way to find out what Greek life is really about.
