Manson makes wish come true

Marilyn Manson helped a teenager with a life-threatening disease make a wish come true.

On Tuesday, Sept. 3, 94.5 VFX aired the story about the singer sponsoring a teenager for the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

Manson teamed up with the Make-A-Wish Foundation to make the wish of Andrew Baines come true.

According to a press release from VFX, Baines is a 16-year-old from Tennessee. He had a wish to sing back-up vocals for a big band. Manson jumped on the task and took Baines under his wing to make his dream come true.

Manson invited Baines into the studio Aug. 27. Manson even let Baines do backing vocals on his upcoming album, “The Golden Age of Grotesque.”

“Yesterday, I spent the afternoon with Andrew, who reminded me the things I create are only made complete by those who enjoy them. I just want to simply say, ‘thank you’ to Andrew for sharing such an important wish with me,” Manson said, according to his Web site www.marilynmanson.com.

The story aired on the Al and Brandon Show on 94.5. Al Pace and Brandon Hawkes run the show every weekday from 6 to 10 a.m.

“I think we all know by now that Marilyn Manson’s spooky Satanism is nothing but a marketing strategy … and that 10 or 20 years from now, he’ll be skipping rope with little girls in cell phone commercials like Alice Cooper,” Pace said on the show.

So, what do students at Utah State University think of the musician and his recent act of kindness?

Amy Matheson, an undeclared sophomore, said she is not a fan of Manson.

“That’s not because I don’t like him, I’m just into other music,” she said.

Jennette Richey, a senior majoring in dietetics, has a different perspective about Manson.

“I think he’s freaky looking,” Richey said.

She said whenever she hears a Manson song she will change the station to listen to something else. She also said she thinks Manson is not a good person.

Ricky Fielding, a graduate student studying electrical engineering, agreed with Richey.

“I am not a fan of Manson,” Fielding said. “Judging by all the things I have heard about him, he probably is not a very good person.”

He said the only reason Manson is popular is because of all the songs he re-makes.

He said he believes Manson’s appearance is all just an act. However, he may have a good side, too.

“Nobody is heartless,” Fielding said. “Manson helped Baines because deep down inside he does have a heart.”

According to the Web site, Manson said, “I wanted to make Andrew a permanent part of history, sealed up in distortion and megabytes of plastic.”
