OUR VIEW: Change is good …. but here are some more ideas

For years students have griped and moaned about services available on campus at Utah State University. Frequently, students have voiced their opinion about The Hub being too expensive or the parking too limited. Finally, though, an entity on campus has listened to the students and acted to make life at Utah State University better. Kudos to the designers and staff of the newly refurbished USU Bookstore.

In years past, the bookstore has been at the top of the list of things to change around campus. The students were never satisfied because the lines were too long, the light too dim and the prices too high. Fortunately, changes have been made to satisfy most of the students’ desires.

Nary a complaint can be heard while standing in the much shorter lines in the new store. Students are happier and constantly commenting on how short the wait is now that the line doesn’t wind through the dark aisles lined with art supplies.

The help desk is finally located in a central location and is staffed with personnel who are willing and ready to help. And certainly the staffers won’t have to use maps as soon as they get used to the new layout of the store.

Unfortunately, nothing is perfect and a little constructive criticism is never a bad thing. A few concerns have been expressed regarding signs and the ease of finding textbooks. One thing the old store had going for it was the large signs hanging over the textbook section of the store indicating where each subject was located. The new store seems to invite confusion because the books are not as easily located. Larger signs would also lighten the load for those staff members who are constantly helping students find their books.

Once again, compliments to the bookstore and the efforts they have made in making life – particularly the first week of school – easier for everyone on campus.
