QUICK PICKS: Getting a manicure offers a great escape

While writing papers, turning book pages or taking notes, the life of a student can wreak havoc on a girl’s (or guy’s) fingernails. With spring finally here, it is time for Utah State University students to take off those mittens and head to the salons for a manicure.

But where should you go for such a luxury? We at The Statesman have tried three of Logan’s nail care establishments to see who has the best buy, style and service on our four-star scale.

3. Nails N Spa, 981 S. Main St. The manicure given at Spa N Nails was of good quality, but lacked some of the perks given by the other salons. They were quick and efficient, showed skill and that they knew what they were doing. GRADE: 2 Polish Bottles

The service was nice, if not necessarily friendly, but definitely not rude. The atmosphere was lacking, with white and mostly blank walls, and a more sterile than comfortable feel. The best part of the whole thing was that the manicure only cost $10. The experience took less than one-half hour and was overall enjoyable.

2. Sue’s Hair and Nails, Clock Tower Plaza, 550 N. Main St., Suite 118 Sue’s Hair and Nails salon did an excellent job. A standard manicure cost $10, and it was worth it. The service was wonderful with friendly and personable employees who maintained lively conversations. They had a very inviting and comfortable environment. I only wish the effects of my manicure could have lasted longer.GRADE: 3 Polish Bottles

1. Kakoi Day Spa, 55 W. 1000 North I enjoyed my experience with Kakoi. Workers at the tastefully-decorated salon maintain a professional, yet friendly, atmosphere.

One of the two manicurists at the spa greeted me politely before working on my nails. The manicurist spared none of the perks for this hour-long manicure, which cost $20 compared to $10 and the one-half hour the other spas offered.

I was really pleased with the outcome. Plus, we succeeded in making pleasant conversation throughout the manicure. Kakoi did a detailed and high-quality manicure. Those who want a manicure from Kakoi should call in advance. They are in high demand, so appointments have to be made a few days prior.GRADE: 4 Polish Bottles
