OUR VIEW: Only one vehicle per stall in terrace and parking lots, please

Now that school has been back in session for a little more than a month, the problem of inconsiderate parking must be addressed. Again.

Unfortunately, this issue appears in the Our View section of the Utah Statesman every year without fail. However, since it is a reoccurring problem, the question will always remain: Who teaches people it is OK to take up two parking stalls?

College life is challenging. Attending college forces people to expand their horizons and value their time. Since time always seems to be a precious commodity for many students, getting from place to place in a timely manner can be difficult.

Regardless, does this make students exempt from showing common courtesy? Apparently so, for far too many of them. Walk through the parking terrace. There are always vehicles parked in the terrace which take up more than one stall, eliminating valuable parking.

Since the people who work at the terrace keep track of the number of stalls available and the number of vehicles that have entered the terrace, people who take up two parking spaces make it impossible to calculate how many available spots there are.

Imagine trying to make it to class on time, only to find out that all of the stalls have been occupied. It doesn’t happen often, but it does happen, and when it happens it really stinks.

The bottom line is finding parking spaces on campus can be a real hassle. Do not compound it any further by being inconsiderate to others.
