Local born student came to USU and discovers she’s really a procrastinator

Neil Butler

Tara Ashcroft

freshman, undeclared

Hometown: Logan

Caught: In front of the Carousel

Utah Statesman: Why did you pick Utah State?

Tara Ashcroft: I’ve always really wanted to come here. I went to Logan High and applied for an Ambassador scholarship. I got it, so here I am.

US: What do Ambassadors do?

Ashcroft: We are those people who give the guided tours to students. We also go to the local high schools and try to get people to come to Utah State.

US: Do you like it?

Ashcroft: I think its pretty fun. I get to know a lot about the campus and the activities that go on.

US: What kind of activities do you like to go to?

Ashcroft: I love the basketball games. They are so exciting. It’s so great to see people out there.

US: What do you think about the crowds at the games? Are they just right or over the top?

Ashcroft: That’s one of the best parts. They are just right. The fans make the game the best. That’s one of the reasons I go. I don’t think that they can go over the top.

US: What are some of the other activities you do on campus?

Ashcroft: I love to play soccer. Not for the university or anything like that of course, but sometimes I go down to the HPER to play, but every Tuesday and Thursday I play at USA.

US: What do you think about Black History Month?

Ashcroft: I think it’s a cool thing to support. It’s cool to learn about different things.

US: Did you attend any of the events that the Black Student Union held last week?

Ashcroft: No. I really didn’t even know that they were going on.

US: What is the biggest secret you’ve found out about yourself at college?

Ashcroft: I think I thought I would work harder than I do. I like to procrastinate and I just figured I would work a lot harder than I do when I got here.

US: How would you rate the dating life at the university?

Ashcroft: I would probably give it seven and a half out of 10. It isn’t that bad.

US: When was the last date you’ve had?

Ashcroft: I actually had one last Saturday. It was really a lot of fun. We went out to eat and then went and played video games. I really had a lot fun.

US: Did you play the old school Nintendo or one of the newer versions?

Ashcroft: We played it all.

US: What would be your ideal dream date?

Ashcroft: That question’s a hard one. I would like to go out to the beach. This is my dream date of course. Then we would eat lots of food. Afterwards we would go swimming with the dolphins. This isn’t one of the usual dates in Logan.

US: If you had one wish, what would you make the guy next to you do?

Ashcroft: Have him fly me to the beach.
