OUR VIEW: Internship deadlines are fast approaching

Internships are invaluable.

Many students at Utah State University however, are stressed with midterms and the daily struggle of being a student. So, deadlines for internships are forgotten.

The time is now.

For most internships, no matter what the career field, due dates for applications are coming.

Waiting until the last second to apply for an internship is not feasible. Most require letters of recommendation or extensive essays.

It is all worth it.

Not only are internships a fun way to experience future jobs, they look great on résumés.

Most people have dealt with the struggle of “How do I get my first job if they want past experience?”

The same holds true for internships.

The better the internship, the more experience the employer is after.

Start off small.

The most valuable time to have a first internship is between sophomore and junior year. This gives the student an opportunity to work for free or next-to-nothing, but have a chance at a better internship the following summer.

This is an important time of year.

Employers prefer people who have experience in the work field and what better way to learn than spending the summer doing something that could be in the future?

Students interested in internships for the coming summer should talk to their department head and academic adviser.
