QUICK FACTS: Water is the essence of life
• A drought is caused by high air pressure resulting in less precipitation
• Over the past year the temperature in Logan has increased 1.4 degrees and is likely to continue to rise.
• Temperatures in the United States have increased by .6 percent over the past century.
• Utah is a high-risk state for drought because of high temperatures, strong sunlight and lots of people.
• The drought could seriously affect wildlife in Utah. Lowered lake levels will increase salinity and produce an unlivable habitat for fish and predatory birds.
Tips to conserve water:
• Make sure toilets are at the correct water level and they are free from leaks.
• Take shorter showers or a bath.
• Install water-saving shower heads
• Fill the dishwasher and washing machine instead of doing half loads.
• Wash the car at a car wash that recycles its water.
