LETTER: Learn about languages
Dear Editor,
I appreciate the recognition of the needs of our programs expressed by the staff editorial in last Friday’s Statesman in its strong message of support for increased funding for the languages and arts at Utah State University. In the same editorial, concerns were also raised that many students do not know where to turn to get information about what language class is right for them. The editorial asks: “Does taking language in high school make a difference?” Yes, it often does. Any students interested in knowing what language course is right for them can stop by the department office in Old Main, Room 204. Information sheets about language placement and proficiency testing are available in this location, as well as on our departmental Web site at www.usu.edu/langphil/placement.htm.
