Outdoor Recreation Center to celebrate mountain culture

The Outdoor Recreation Center will celebrate Logan’s mountain culture Wednesday and Thursday by showing movies from the Banff Film Festival.

The two nights of different films will be held in the Kent Concert Hall. They will include movies about kayaking, skiing and cultures around the world.

“It has something for everybody,” said Kevin Kobe, who works at the ORC.

Whether the viewer is planning an expedition and needs some inspiration or is an “air-chair adventurer” who needs motivation to go cross-country skiing up Green Canyon, Kobe said this is a good way for people to “get together and get inspired.”

“It’s obvious that the community needs it, because every time we do something there are tons of people who show up,” Kobe said.

The event will begin at 6 p.m. with a mini-trade show, Kobe said.

Organizations and retailers will have booths set up.

There will also be a raffle for a mountain bike and a pair of back-country skis, Kobe said. The tickets are $1.

The money will be used for the Lyon, Maas and Mueggler Scholarship, named for three Logan residents who were killed in an avalanche, Kobe said.

Tickets are $5 with a student ID and $7 without and are available at the ORC table in the Taggart Student Center, at the ORC or at the show.
