LETTER: Chemistry prof does just fine

Dear Editor

I am writing in response to the letter published in Monday’s edition, which refers to a particular chemistry teacher’s “English problem.” First off, there is no problem. Let’s not be made to forget that when a professor is selected to teach a subject, there are guidelines and minimum requirements that have to be reached, and for foreign applicants, one of these requirements is the ability to speak and use the English language. Applicants are not simply picked because of their desire to teach and their knowledge of a subject. The particular teacher who is being unfairly accused of “poor English skills” easily conveys chemistry properties to myself and all others I have spoken with who share the course. I also think the person who wrote the original derogatory letter about this superb professor should apologize for being so quick to judge and for picking such a ridiculous subject to dwell upon, not to mention the fact that this professor’s feelings were hurt in such a way that tears were shed in front of a class as this bogus letter was discussed.
