LETTER: Glenn Miller is a treat for students, community
Dear Editor,
I am not a student at USU, but I wanted to get a message to President Hall and all the students here. I attended the Glenn Miller Show at USU last evening along with some other members of my family.
We had never been before and admit we were a little shocked at the price, but we had always wanted to attend so we decided to go ahead and purchase tickets.
What an evening! The atmosphere was so nostalgic. The dinner was great. The dancing and orchestra were great. The show, well, it was incredible! The singing, dancing and costumes were wonderful.
A production with professional dancers and singers could not have topped this, I’m sure. What talent at this university!
We decided we would make this a yearly tradition and wanted to bring more of the family next year, then a man announced that this could be the last year for this show because the university was withdrawing its support.
What a shame that would be. It is so hard to find good, wholesome entertainment in this day and age and it was refreshing to be able to attend such a nice evening with such great entertainment.
I hope whoever is in charge of this decision will take a closer look and see that not only is this a great opportunity for “their students” to perform, but a great opportunity for the community to gain an appreciation for another era, and a very important one at that.
I attended with my grandfather, who served in World War II, and my grandmother, who was married to him at the time. It was great to hear their stories and to know that this was “their” music. We left the evening feeling like we needed to pay more money! What a bargain for such a great time. Please do not let this great tradition die!
