Letter to the Editor: College Republicans ask for public response

Dear Editor,

As part of the College Republicans “Diversity” Scholarship we posed this question to the Affirmative Action Office, “Is it racial discrimination to deny a person access to financial gain because of the color of their skin.” We were quickly referred to the Public Relations department who would not answer the question unless it was asked by a reporter from a newspaper. When the question was answered in last Monday’s article we felt it was vague, imprecise and off the specific topic. Their answer was that USU does not discriminate … period. Judging from the question we asked, are we to assume that USU does not believe that it is racial discrimination to deny someone access to financial gain because of their skin color?

The College Republicans would like to pose this question again to the Affirmative Action Office (or those who speak for them) and ask for a pubic response that directly answers our specific question.
