USU follows Miami win with three zeros

Ben Walker

followed the win with shutout losses against Minnesota (1-0), Wisconsin (7-0) and host Sacramento State (5-0).

USU’s 1-3 record at the Capital Classic in Sacramento moves their overall record to 4-18. The Aggies seven-run victory consitutes their greatest margin of victory this season, eclipsing the previous season high of three against

Cal State Fullerton. The other two Aggie wins were by a single run each. USU is yet to win consecutive games.

In the victory against Miami, Utah State jumped out to a 4-0 lead after two innings with runs scored by Jami Uragami, Sara Fleming, Amy Schaible and Ashley Bellum. Jessica Garnett batted in two runners with a two-run double in the inning.

Every Aggie made it to base at least once and Garnett had three hits. The Aggies were held scoreless in the third inning, but scored in every inning thereafter, recording a total of 15 hits and scoring nine of them.

The Red Hawks picked up two runs in the fourth inning, but never led. Utah State’s glory was short-lived, however, as they recorded just six hits in their next three games, including a no-hitter by Sacramento State pitcher Cassie Cervantes.

The Aggies will play their first game in Utah this season when they face Harvard in Salt Lake City on Friday. Utah State will then play the Utah Utes before hosting their first games in Logan next week.
