Harris top Aggie again

Editor’s note: Harris was named Athlete of the Week for the week of March 13-17.

Utah Statesman: Have you ever had any pets?

Nate Harris: Lot of dogs growing up, but as of lately, no. My mom and my family have a golden lab dog named Lucy.

US: What is your favorite animal?

NH: Probably a dog. That’s what I’ve been around the most.

I do like snakes though. I’ve always had a closet secret that I’ve wanted to get a big snake sometime, but I don’t think that’ll happen. I don’t think my wife would allow that.

US: Who is your hero?

NH: My mother has always been the person I could kind of look up to. Growing up, she’s always been the one I’ve looked up to.

US: Are you more excited or nervous about graduating?

NH: A little bit of both probably. I’m excited I was able to finish. Always a goal in life to graduate from college, but I’m nervous about trying to find a job, trying to find a place to play basketball. The whole process is very, very new to me. I’m also excited to try something new and start a whole new chapter of my life.

US: What is your favorite beverage?

NH: A Diet Pepsi. A couple years ago, I was converted. It’s in my family to gain weight very quickly, so I started as soon as a figured I could switch over from regular soda to diet.

US: What is your favorite thing about USU?

NH: All the people and support you get – both from athletics and academics. The crowds always being in the Spectrum during games. [And] even around academics and professors all so willing to help, all the support from all the people in the university.

US: What is the hardest basketball game you’ve ever played?

NH: The only one I can think of right now was in the summer during high school, we went to a tournament in Minnesota. We played this team in the championship game. They were probably a lot better than us but we won the game. It was a really hard game.

US: What is your dream vacation?

NH: I’ve been to Hawaii a couple times, but they were both for basketball tournaments. I didn’t get to do a lot of vacationing. I’ve always wanted to go back there.

I think that’s a place my wife Kelly would like to go, too.

US: How did you celebrate when you found out USU made it to the NCAA Tournament?

NH: We were in Coach Morrill’s living room watching the selection show and trying to figure out what we were going to do.

When they announced our name, it was chaos for a little while – I thought we were going to ruin his living room. It was definitely exciting to know I would be able to finish my career going back to the NCAA Tournament.

US: What’s it like being an on-campus celebrity?

NH: I don’t know if I’d say on-campus celebrity. But I enjoy that I’ve gotten to know so many people so that I’m not walking around lonely any time going to classes.

It’s fun to always be able to talk with people and get to know so many different kinds of people.
