Rahe named WSU head coach

Randy Rahe, a former assistant coach at Utah State, was named the head coach of the Weber State men’s basketball team Thursday.

Rahe worked under USU head coach Stew Morrill for 13 years, seven at Colorado State before spending six in Logan. He was also an assistant at Denver, Colorado and Colorado College.

At USU, he was the defensive coordinator and helped with recruiting, game preparation and scheduling.

Rahe said the key to a successful program is the people that are involved with it.

“The key is recruiting good players, good students and quality people,” he said in a WSU press release. “That’s the formula for success, and that is what I plan to bring to Weber State University. There are a lot of positives to build on.”

Under Morrill, Rahe helped guide USU to a 143-48 record during his tenure.

WSU is now in good hands, Morrill said.

“There is no doubt in my mind that Randy Rahe will do a great job (at Weber State),” he said. “He did an unbelievable job in the 13 years that he was with me, and he is ready for the challenge of being a head coach. He will tackle it with unbelievable energy, and I think it’s a great day for Weber State and a great day for Randy Rahe.”

Morrill said he is excited for his former co-worker.

“I think one of the happiest days for any longtime head coach is when one of

his assistants, or former assistants, gets an opportunity to become a head coach,” he said. “That’s what every assistant strives for, and that’s what every head coach hopes for, in terms of the quality of assistants that he has or has had.”

The Wildcats will face the Aggies next season and the game will most likely be in the Spectrum.
