Column: ASUSU View; Voting is fast, easy and convenient

The candidates are ready, the time has arrived and now “We want you” to vote in the 2006 ASUSU elections.

As a student, you are a member of the Associated Students of Utah State University and have a voice through the Executive Council and Academic Senate. Since 1969, this body has been created to be your liaison between the administration and state government.

If you don’t vote, who will?

Currently, there are 35 primary candidates vying for your vote. After much preparation and planning, the week is finally here. Do they have what it takes to win your heart and get your vote? These men and women are interested in making your lives at Utah State more student-friendly and academically sound. Unlike other universities around the nation, Utah State is unique in that Executive Council and senate members each sit on at least two (if not more) university-wide committees. The members – and your soon-to-be 2006-2007 council – work closely with faculty and administration to address your concerns and issues.

Primary elections will run from March 1-3 with the voting polls closing at 1:30 p.m. March 3. Finals will run March 6-8 with polls closing at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 8.

I challenge each of you to take an active role in talking with the candidates, looking at their platforms and discovering who you think will do the best job in office. Each of their platforms can be accessed from the A-Station (a-station.usu.edu), the ASUSU Web site.

Students have the opportunity to meet candidates while they are out campaigning around campus. In addition, there are scheduled events they can come and meet them at. Wednesday from 12:30 p.m.-1:30 p,m., there is a presidential debate in the Juniper Lounge where students can ask candidates running for president questions and get free Aggie ice cream. On Thursday, you can meet all the candidates in the Sunburst Lounge from 12:30 p.m.-1:30 p.m. while enjoying free sugar cookies.

Once you have decided who you think will do the best job, it is simple: VOTE! Voting can also being accessed through the A-Station and the best part is you can vote any time you’d like before the polls close.

To vote it only takes three simple steps:

1) Log in with your A number and pin

2) Select your candidates

3) Submit

Enjoy the excitement of elections week and do your duty as a student of Utah State University and VOTE!
