Boise too much for women’s team

Viviana Ramirez

The Women’s Basketball team fought to get their second home win in two weeks against the Boise State Broncos but couldn’t pull it off as they lost 55-72.

The team defeated Idaho State last week before falling to Hawai’i. Boise is the second of the Aggies’ last two home games. The Aggies’ first Senior Night will be Saturday against Nevada.

“It was disappointing,” senior post Jessica Freeman said. “I felt like they wanted it more and they shouldn’t when they come to our place.”

Freeman was the leading scorer in the game for the Aggies with 14 points and one block.

The first half started with the Aggies going on a 6-0 run. Danyelle Snelgro dropped her only 3-pointer of the game while Freeman and Jenny Gross made one free-throw each before Boise finally scored.

Boise didn’t trail for long as they quickly caught up and passed the Aggies.

“We had highs and we had lows and when we had lows it took us a while to get out of them,” said Taylor Richards, who scored 11 points for the Aggies along with six assists.

The Aggies tried to keep up but in the end of the first half trailed 24-31 to the Broncos.

The second half was just a battle to keep up for the Aggies as Boise slipped further and further away with the lead.

“We played very flat in the second half,” Utah State Head Coach Raegen Pebley said. “We missed a lot of points.”

She said that it wouldn’t be hard to keep the team’s spirits up for Saturday because the team had really good chemistry and they played hard.

“We have to refocus,” she said. “Our kids, I know, are going to be excited to play Nevada.”

The Aggies shot for 30.5 percent from the field in the game and 57.7 percent from the line.

Saturday will be the teams last home game and Senior Night as they take on Nevada State in a double-header with the men’s basketball team.

“I loved playing here,” said Freeman. “I don’t want it to end. (But) I really think we can beat Nevada. We’re going to have to come out with more heart and energy to win.”

Tip-off is at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday.
