OUR VIEW: TSC changes rock our world

Les Essig hasn’t even taken office yet, and he’s already helped fulfill one of his campaign promises.

With changes that will likely happen this summer to the Taggart Student Center, students are being given the opportunity to retake what is rightfully theirs.

The TSC has become, over the years, more of an administration building. While there are some services in the building such as the Cashier’s Office and Registrar’s Office that are convenient to students, other offices just make little sense for a student center.

With $25,000 being approved to help students make the Juniper Lounge into something they can enjoy, Essig and the new ASUSU council are being given a head start on making some real progress next year.

Yes, there are some changes that aren’t the greatest things in the world. No one likes to see the Bull Pen close, but in reality, students win on this issue.

The billiards tables will be moved to the Fieldhouse and students will be given the opportunity to play for free. Now, students won’t have to pay a few dollars an hour to shoot pool.

The TSC is slowly starting to return to its glory days of the 1960s and 1970s when many alumni remember it as being the place to be. Movies were shown every weekend in the auditorium and students would hang out and socialize.

This is not just a good thing – it’s a very good thing.
