OUR VIEW: Villagers deserve monetary help

With 30 cars having windows broken by the winds last Friday someone is left with the bill for repairing the damage; this bill shouldn’t be left on already cash-strapped students.

Students who live in Aggie Village sign a standard contract, just like any apartment complex. Unfortunately, this contract doesn’t cover “Acts of God”. These so-called acts of the big man should be covered because it was the university who put the tiny gravel projectiles on the roof in the first place.

The university is still researching what to do with the damage and has assessors working to check on costs, but this isn’t enough. Something needs to be done now from the university’s side. They need to find a way to either pay for the broken windows entirely or help the students cover the damage.

The damage that has been done is unfortunate. Now, the university will hopefully learn from this. The next step after helping students pay for the damages is to replace the gravel roof coverings. These gravel roofs may have been good at some point in their life span, but now they are causing problems.

By replacing the rocks on the buildings, the university will save themselves a lot of hassles in the long run. The wind is bound to blow again, and hopefully the university will take more measure to insure themselves, even if it means placing a line in the Aggie Villiage housing contract that states, “Any rocks blown from our roofs that damage your property will not be covered by your housing contract.”

The easiest solution, though, would be to pay for the damage and replace the roofs.
