Singers “Returning Home” Saturday

This Saturday hails the returning home of some of Logan’s own singers and songwriters.

A few years ago, Logan was charged by the sounds of pure unadulterated rock. There was an explosion of talent that gave way to great bands like Wastin’ Whiskey, Sunhouse Healers, Sand and Overlooked. However, as time went on, so did many of these bands, leaving in their wake only a legend of a time gone by.

Greg Downs, with the help of Todd Milovich, Amy Nguyen and others from Fast-Forward College (a school of music here in Logan) planned the event. Set for Saturday, Nov. 19, “Returning Home,” is an acoustic show that will feature five talented songwriters.

After about a decade of playing Cache Valley’s rock scene, Greg Downs has recently started his career as a solo artist. This Saturday’s show, as Downs said will be his first official show as a solo musician.

Greg Downs who has both organized and is headlining Saturday’s show is a talented guitar player and singer. He played in a variety of hard rock bands including Sand and Quim in a Pipkin.

Josh Johnson, who currently plays in Sunhouse Healers, will also be a part of the acoustic fun this Saturday. Johnson classifies his music as “sex rock.” His singing and playing style carries with it a very bluesy and folk-overtone backed up by powerful rock undertones.

Shane Harris will also be taking the stage this Saturday night. He has played with Wastin’ Whiskey, Throwaway Generation and currently, with the band In Vein. Harris says that his music is basically Journey mixed with the Rolling Stones and Social Distortion.

Isaac Anderson, also known as “Dead Beat,” is an emo rocker that describes his music as being “dirty, raw and melodic with emotion that pushes through.” While writing music, he tries to capture his feelings with each and every song that he writes. Isaac will be joined by Jules Burger who will be playing upright bass.

Last, but not least, Amy Nguyen is a rising talent rapidly gaining a name for herself here in Logan. Downs said that, every time she takes the stage, she stuns the crowd with the energy and power that she brings with her. A punk-influenced rocker and acoustic player, Nguyen is sure to turn some heads and some ears.

This acoustic performance is a must see. But don’t take my word for it, take a break from those textbooks, get a babysitter for your kids and come enjoy an evening of great music.
