The Aggies came away from two of three matches over Spring Break with their highest scores of the season, 196.025 and 195.750, both against Brigham Young University, but it seemed like too little too late.

The Aggies finished the regular season with an overall 6-10 record.

Following the final home meet of the season against BYU, coach Ray Corn said, “It was a delight to watch the team perform to the level that they train at on a daily basis.”

Posting a season high, the Aggies defeated the Cougars 196.025-195.500 in the Spectrum March 9 – the best score earned by any Aggie team ever in the Spectrum. It also tied the second highest mark in Utah State history.

The Aggies came away with the third-best vault score in school history with a 49.100 against the Cougars – it’s the first time Utah State had scored above a 49.00 on the vault since the 1997 season.

USU’s 49.250 tied for the third-best uneven bar mark in school history. Three Aggies – sophomore Tina Ellis, freshman Brittnee Penman and junior Jessenia Abrego – scored 9.875s, earning first place finishes in the event.

The Aggies had two days to rest before heading into competition in Cedar City, where they took on Southern Utah University.

It was SUU’s turn to shine with a season-high 195.300. They outscored the Aggies 194.300 March 12.

The bright spot in the meet for the Aggies was turning in a season-high 49.100 on the balance beam, the event that plagued the team all season.

Their second highest team score of the season,195.750, wasn’t enough against in-state rival BYU, which defeated the Aggies with a school record 197.325 Friday.

The Aggies were incredible on the balance beam, outdoing their season high from the previous meet with a 49.350. Sophomore Tina Ellis led the Aggies with a 9.950 mark.

The only event the Aggies seemed to stumble on for the night was the uneven bars, where the Aggies had to count two falls from the apparatus. Ellis again recorded a 9.950 to win the event.

Ellis scored a career-high 39.300 in the all-around competition and finished second overall on the night.

Concluding the regular season, the Aggies will head to Santa Barbara, Calif., Saturday to compete in the Big West Championships.
