Forwards Joel Basson and Derek Fontaine each had four points for the Utah State club hockey team in a 9-0 rout of the Brigham Young University Cougars on Saturday night in Provo.

Seven different Aggies scored goals as a balanced attack led the way for the Aggies.

Forward Cooper Limb opened the scoring for the Aggies with an assist from senior forward Matt Hamilton on the power play. Forward Stu Hepburn added two goals to go along with two more from Basson. Hamilton, freshman forward Andrew Latham and Fontaine also added goals for USU. The Aggies’ fifth goal was awarded to freshman defender Shaun Gibbons.

Utah State’s sophomore goalie Jordan Nighttraveller recorded the shutout with 20 saves on the night, while USU launched 58 shots on goal.

The Aggies gave a few players the night off to rest for the home opener next weekend against Arizona State University. Leading Aggie goal-scorer Chris Videto was among the Aggies that sat the game out, as was captain Brian Gibbons.
