LETTER: Get involved in politics

Editor,

With all the hype of student elections I’ve been thinking about voting in general, and I am concerned about the lack of voting in governmental polls. Students are proven to be the group with the lowest voting average of any age group. For being the future leaders of our country we’re sure slacking in our responsibility to voice our opinion.

Due to our lack of interest in governmental affairs, educational matters are not high on the agenda of congress. If we have interest in government assistance, we need to show interest in the government. Everyone complains that tuition continues to increase, and without government aid it will continue to do so. If we want to see an end to the increases we need to support the candidates and vote. As Americans, many of our ancestors fought for the right to vote and now many do not exercise that right. We need to take advantage of the privileges given to us.
