Illegal burn leads to fire
At 12:41 p.m. on July 20, 2007, Logan City Fire Department and the Cache Country Fire Department were called out to a grass fire at approximately 300 N 100 E., Providence. The fire started when the resident was burning weeds and dry brush in a 55 gallon drum. The fire quickly spread to a large wood pile that was stored nearby. The fire came within inches of several buildings and vehicles. Logan City Fire Department quickly contained and extinguished the fire. The Providence City Public Works department brought in a backhoe to pull the wood pile apart to allow the fire department to extinguish any hot spots within the pile. The resident did not have an open burn permit. Open burning is not allowed after June 1, 2007 unless a special permit has been issued by the local fire department. As a reminder to all residents in the Cache Valley, the conditions are very dry, with little humidly and very hot temperatures. Making the conditions extremely dangerous for fires. Please take all necessary precautions to prevent fires. A total of one engine, two brush trucks and 5 chief officers along with 6 firefighter and the Providence Public Works employees responded to the fire.
