Guest conductor, pianistto join Utah Symphony
Principal Guest Conductor Pavel Kogan and pianist Jean-Efflambavouzet will join the Utah Symphony to perform pieces by artists Serge Prokofiev, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Maurice Ravel.
The concert will be woven with Prokofiev’s “Piano Concerto No. 3 in C major, Op. 26;” Mozart’s “Symphony No. 39 in E-flat major, K.543” and “Ravel’s Suite No. 2” from the ballet “Daphnis at Chloé.”
Efflambavouzet has collaborated with orchestras in his native France, as well as Finland, Belgium and festivals across the world. He has worked in North America in both the United States and Canada.
Lemonde magazine voted his CD, “Schumann” the best classical recording of 1992, said Steven Ireland, the symphony’s public relations officer.
Efflambavouzet performs all kinds of music, including music from Beethoven, Bartok and Prokofiev.
Prokofiev completed the Concerto in summer of 1921 and calls his work “caustic humor.”
Mozart’s “Symphony No. 39 in E-flat major” was composed in 1788, but the reason he composed it is unknown, according to the Utah Symphony press release.
The Russian Ballet commissioned Ravel to write the choreographic symphony “Daphnis at Chloé” in 1910.
The concert will be held April 4 at Abravanel Hall at 7:30 p.m. Ticket prices range from $20 to $42. They can be purchased through ArtTix at (801) 355-2787, at an ArtTix outlet, at Abravanel Hall or Capitol Theatre or online at www.utahsymphony.org.
Kogan is in his third season conducting the Utah Symphony, which he does in four pairs of concerts each year.
