LETTER: Gun Control arguments hypocritical

I love so much to read Rich Timothy’s mindless babbling on everything he feels qualified to mutter about. Well, after reading his latest article it is apparent he isn’t qualified to write about gun control. He makes assumptions that are unfounded and irrational. According to Rich, if we were to get rid of all of the guns in the world, then there would be no murder, violence or even (one would guess) hate. That would be nice. Just imagine it. We will throw the guns in a big pile and light them on fire. We will sing camp songs and cheer in our big group hug.

How long do you think it would take before someone saw someone else driving a car that they wanted and picked up a hammer and killed them? I guess hammers kill people, too. I am pretty sure that there were many deaths before Roger Bacon invented gun powder.

By the way, Rich, it is true that if you were to take away the gun from a “gun-caused” death then that person would still be alive. However, in a hammer-caused death if you were to take away the hammer then this person would still be alive, too. That proves nothing! I am sure that someone missed out on the fact that cars are responsible for more deaths than anything else. Should we ban all cars, too?

Keep on hating inanimate objects and the law-abiding people who own them. There were many law-abiding citizens in the United States last year who used their firearm to protect themselves. What if they didn’t have a gun?

The most interesting thing about the whole article was Rich’s way of solving violence – through violence. He says that to him guns are “one of the biggest tools used to take away the rights of other people.” Well to me, alcohol, drugs and drunk driving are up there too. Why not write an article about that? Oh wait, he did. He wanted to legalize all drugs so “then finally all of us will have a little more freedom.”
