OUR VIEW: Candidates aren’t showing maturity
National presidential elections are already getting out of control, and it’s only March. The candidates have resorted to using unethical tactics by attacking each other, instead of sticking to the relevant issues in the election.
Just this week George W. Bush stated John Kerry didn’t support the troops in Iraq in one of his campaign ads. Then, in defense, one of Kerry’s campaign spokesmen denied the claim and insulted Bush’s ability to take care of the troops. The real issue that should be debated is whether the candidates are in favor of the war in Iraq. Instead of arguing about this, both candidates are throwing back petty insults like 4-year-old children.
This behavior seems to repeat itself through every political election America has. It is no wonder that Americans are apathetic and sometimes angry about politics. It is hard to respect and support leaders who act this immature during elections.
The candidates of every political race should stick to the issues, and leave each other alone. Maybe more people would show up to the polls if they felt one of the candidates were worth voting for.
Presently, both Kerry’s and Bush’s campaigns are bordering on annoying. It is disconcerting to think that one of them will be running the country next year. Hopefully the winner can mature before he takes his place in office as president.
