UWRL Faculty and Staff:

Thank you for a very successful Environmental Engineering Day for Cache Service Area Girl Scouts! On Saturday, March 27, 100 girls ranging in age from 5 to 14 were treated to a special day of engineering laboratories, lectures, demonstrations, and projects at the Utah Water Research Laboratory. This event was sponsored by the student Society of Women Engineers’ organization, and was staffed by the UWRL faculty/staff. Special thanks to Associate Dean Hailey for her planning efforts and glue gun expertise; to Director McKee for opening up the lab for this event and not having a heart attack when his front lobby was completely filled with girls, crayons, papers, glue and “garbage art” at 4 p.m. on Saturday; to Dr. Martin for his demonstrations on how air pollution is generated and measured, to Shalene Merrill from the Logan City Environmental Offices for an entire day of instruction and activities on solid waste management; to Dr. Dupont for his water treatment and filtration laboratories; to all the USU SWE Engineering women who donated hours of time to the planning and staffing of this event; and to the 6 Cadettes, Sydney, Bridgette, Athena, Alexis, Pauline and Kira who first learned, then co-taught the afternoon sessions with faculty and student mentors. It was a wonderful experience for everyone. Submitted by Sonia Manuel-Dupont, Girl Scout Troop #3 Leader
