Aurora, Colo., Native Marquardt Signs With USU Gymnastics
Utah State gymnastics head coach Ray Corn announced Monday that Chelsea Marquardt has signed with the Aggies for the 2007-08 season.
Marquardt, a native of Aurora, Colo., is a member of the Champion’sGymnastics Team in Denver, Colo., and was a priority signing for Corn.
“Chelsea is the kind of athlete that will help us continue to build a topnotch program here at Utah State,” Corn said. “She is an exceptionallystrong vaulter, finishing as high as second at the national level, and avery good all around gymnast. She also is very strong on the bar and thebeam. You don’t normally find this caliber of gymnast after the secondsigning day, so we are fortunate to have her at Utah State.”
Marquardt, a fifth year level 10 gymnast and two time national championshipqualifier, is excited to attend a school that is a top notch academicinstitution and has a strong division one gymnastics program. With her trackrecord of success, she is excited and ready for the challenge of collegiategymnastics.
“I have focused for so long on taking this step into collegiate gymnastics,”Marquardt said. “Now that the time has come, I am excited to prove my skillsat the next level.”
She plans to major in an education related field at Utah State, and enjoythe mountain setting of beautiful Logan, Utah.
Marquardt is the daughter of Will and Corina Marquardt, and she has twobrothers, Blake (20) and Mitchell (13).
