UTAH STATE GYMNASTIC COACH HOLDS COED GYMNASTICS CAMP
LOGAN, Utah – Gymnasts throughout the western region will participate in Utah State University’s coed Gymnastics Camp July 8-13.
The camp will be directed by Ray Corn, head coach of the Aggie women’s gymnastics program. Corn has been the team’s coach for 28 years.
The week-long camp is designed to increase the abilities of student gymnasts. The camp will also provide individual coaching to help advance each participant’s gymnastic skills.
“Our experienced coaches will work with each of the gymnasts to assess their current level,” Corn said. “We will then provide them individual elements that are part of the new Junior Olympic compulsories and optional skills.”
The camp’s activities will include hours of gymnastics coaching and practice, and also lighter activities including, swimming, team-building games and the opportunity to try to reach the top of a 24-foot climbing wall.
“We believe that to have a successful camp, participants must have some time to relax and enjoy other activities,” Corn said.
Along with the gymnastics camp, there will be USU-accredited coaching classes for teacher recertification. The classes will cover topics such as advanced coaching of women’s balance beam, floor exercise, uneven bars and vault.
Corn will be assisted by his new assistant coaches, Dave Hancock from the Gymnastics Training Center in Salt Lake City Utah and DeEtte Kozlaw from the Colorado Gymnastics Institute in Denver.
Former USU gymnasts Megan Lewis, Carrie Griegers, Elisa Torez, Alex Martin and Jessica Parenti-Otte will make guest appearances to give the participants tips for success.
