USU student loves singing, dancing and is afraid of Jack Nicholson
Utah Statesman: What is your major?
Tory Tryon: German
US: What do you want to do with your German degree?
Tryon: Oh…Anything but teach. I would hate to be a teacher in Utah.
US: What made decide to go the German route?
Tryon: I took it in high school and really liked it, also I have some Germanheritage and I wanted to become fluent, so I thought the best way to become fluent is to major in it.
US: Why did you choose Utah State?
Tryon: I came up here a couple of years ago for youth conference and I fell in love with the campus. I also thought it would be far enough away without being too far away from home. It’s only about an hour away which made it ideal.
US: What do you like the most about Utah State?
Tryon: I like how quiet it is and that it’s a small town. Usually I’m a city girl but it’s nice here, and the campus is really pretty.
US: What is your least favorite thing about Utah State?
Tryon: I hate the snow, and I hate the cold. I was born in Arizona so I don’t like being cold.
US: What part of Arizona were you born in?
Tryon: Mesa.
US: When did you move to Utah?
Tryon: About five and half years ago, actually I moved around a lot when I was kid and we moved from California to Utah about five and a half years ago.
US: Did your dad’s job make you move a lot?
Tryon: No, not normally, just once. He’s a computer software engineer.
US: What would you do with an endless supply of monkeys?
Tryon: Um, I would teach them…hmm I would teach them something. I would teach them to sing and dance and make lots of money. That’s how I’ll make my big break into show business – with my monkeys.
US: Do you want to be in show business?
Tryon: Uh, sort of. I do theater a lot.
US: What are some of you hobbies?
Tryon: I sing and do musical theater. I love to read and write, and I love going out and doing things. I’m a very social person.
US: What kind of things?
Tryon: I like to go out with my friends and go shopping. I have been to a few parties here at USU, stuff like that.
US: Who is the most famous person you have ever met?
Tryon: I have met William Joseph. He came up here to do that concert and I met him. He is probably the most famous person I have ever met. He does a lot of music work with the LDS church.
US: How many brothers and sisters do you have? Were do you fit?
Tryon: I have two brothers and two sisters. I am the oldest girl, I have one older brother.
US: Are you the first person in your family to come to Utah State?
Tryon: Yeah, my parents went to school in California and Arizona. They never went to school in Utah.
US: If you could describe yourself in five words what would they be?
Tryon: Garrulous, and for all those who don’t know what that means, it means talkative. Talented. I have heard that from so many people that I just have to believe it now. Friendly, interesting…uh heck if I know, you have to ask some else to come up with five words.
US: What brings you to the library on a Sunday evening?
Tryon: I have two exams on Tuesday, and you are keeping me from my study time.
US: Sorry about that.
Tryon: Oh I don’t mind. I get attention. I will be in the paper.
US: Where do you see yourself in five years?
Tryon: Well, I wouldn’t mind moving to Germany or possibly to Austria doing what ever I do. I could see myself there in five years.
US: Would you be one of the Von Trappes singing in the hills?
Tryon: No, I hate that musical with a passion. It’s boring, and I have seen it way too many times to like it any more. Let’s just call it at that.
US: What’s your most embarrassing moment?
Tryon: I don’t have one, well there are so many it’s hard to pick out one.
US: If you an had unlimited amount of money and five hours of free time what would you do?
Tryon: I would go down to Salt Lake with my family and refurbish my house and buy everything that my family needed.
US: What do you like to do in your spare time?
Tryon: I like to talk on the phone, hang out with my friends and now I work.
US: Where? Do you like it?
Tryon: Convergs. Yeah, I like it a lot better than my last job.
US: What was that?
Tryon: Selling knives. After the first day of training I realized that I hated it so I never went back.
US: Have you ever ridden an elephant?
Tryon: No, but I did ride a camel when I was, like, three.
US: Final question. What celebrity would you hate to be in a dark alley with? Why?
Tryon: Jack Nicholson. He’s just got a creepy looking guy and his voice, creepy. -dwkoecher@cc.usu.edu
