LETTER:Public transport for life

To the editor:

I am writing as a representative of those who support the Preston to Logan Bus. We would like to take the opportunity to thank all those who have helped to make the Preston to Logan bus possible. We feel it helps everyone in the community directly or indirectly.

We feel that we should be doing all that we can to improve the quality of life in Cache Valley. For every one person that is able to use the bus, a car is taken off the road. This helps improve our air quality. Time on the bus does not have to be wasted. Every car or truck we remove from the streets and highways makes our roads that much safer. We feel that each of us has the responsibility to conserve on the amount of gas/fuel we use.

Depending on what you drive the savings can a great help to your budget when you add gas prices and vehicle wear and tear. None of us are getting a free ride. The buses are funded in Logan by additional sales tax. In Idaho we are accepting donations from those who support and want to keep the bus going. For those who are interested in supporting the Preston to Logan bus, they can contact Phillip Abrams for information on how to make donations. He can be contacted via email at p_lbus@plmw.com.

We would like to thank our employers for supporting us using the bus. We would encourage employers throughout Cache Valley to support and encourage usage of the bus. If they do it will benefit the whole community.

Is the bus system perfect? No, but we have found that CVTD and PRT have both been very responsive to concerns that have been brought to their attention. Can they address all the concerns? No, but we feel that they are continually trying to improve the two systems. We feel that as more and more of the community uses the bus system that is presently available, the demands will drive improvements and expansion of the existing system. We again thank all who have made the transit system available to us and encourage everyone to give input on how it can be improved. We encourage everyone who can to park their cars and trucks and ride the bus. Together we can all make a difference.
